The Fifth Toy Story Film Teaser Sets The Beloved Duo Versus a Digital Device
It has been 30 anniversary since the first Toy Story movie debuted, launching Pixar as a leading animation studio and bringing viewers to iconic figures like Woody (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now household names.
In 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 appeared recently, providing a glimpse into the storyline but leaving viewers wondering how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Spooks the Toys
In the teaser shows the young girl — who inherited Andy's toys when he grew up — getting a latest toy, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She gets her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.
Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like the rest of her playthings. Still, the toys appear to consider it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it likely will.
Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
An element the trailer avoids is why the sheriff is returned with his friends in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (the actress), traveling with a fair and helping giveaway items locate loving owners.
Certainly, the filmmakers will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him appear in Bonnie's room without warning is a little strange, however. It also makes us wonder whether Bo Peep will have come back with him. And what about the stuntman toy (the star)?
Continuity from the Last Installment
Fortunately, some aspects are carrying over from the prior film. The final act Woody did before setting off for his fresh path was hand over his sheriff badge to Jessie (Joan Cusack), leaving her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip shows the badge attached to her shirt.
It is hoped she is remains the driving force among the toys.
Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on June 19, 2026.
